The Developing Brain
Requires Specialized Knowledge and Training
Because the adolescent brain is still growing and developing, it undergoes a great deal of change. Connections are constantly being refined (synaptic pruning) and the communication between different brain regions is becoming faster through a process called myelination. Additionally, the release of hormones via the hypothalamus affects brain activity, thought patterns, and behavior. Teenagers are also constantly interacting in increasingly complex ways with their peers, both in person and on social media, which further stimulates brain activity via the release of neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin.
All of these changes result in a volatile mix of brain activity, neurotransmitter release, and hormone fluctuation, resulting in big highs and lows, increased impulsivity, and greater willingness to take risks for instant gratification (sensation seeking). Given these differences, the assessment and recommended treatments for teens are often not the same as they are for adults and clinicians treating adolescents require specialty training to adequately assess and recommend treatments to increase their chance of success.

Suicidal Ideation or Self-Injurious Behavior
In cases where adolescents are experiencing suicidal ideation or engaging in self-harm, it is imperative that treatments take effect immediately in order to reduce the risk of harmful consequences. The response to ketamine is typically rapid, often reducing symptoms within 24 hours.
This treatment can be life-saving when provided under appropriate medical supervision. Westside Mind Health’s psychiatrists have the expertise, training, and experience necessary to offer unparalleled care for adolescents whose mental health may benefit from ketamine therapy.
RAPID RELIEF
When Other Treatments Have Failed
Ketamine Can Reduce Symptoms Within Just One Day
We understand the immense suffering those struggling with depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions are facing and the hopelessness they may feel when conventional treatments offer little to no relief. That’s why we value the rapid relief from symptoms patients often experience during ketamine therapy so highly. If endless antidepressant trials, debilitating side effects, and month-long trial periods have made true relief feel out of reach, ketamine may be the answer.
WMH is a boutique ketamine clinic that offers a calming, comfortable, medical environment. With our team’s specialized knowledge of adolescent mental health, ketamine is a safe and effective alternative for individuals for whom other medications or treatments may have failed (“treatment resistance”) or when symptoms require urgent treatment.
